By Dr Phil Watts

Breast cancer is the  third most common type of cancer in Australia and in the top five cancers in most other western countries. It is a disease which affects as many as one in eight women who live to 85 years old. These cold hard statistics do not help deal with the devastation which a diagnosis of cancer can cause. The purpose of A Psychological Survival Guide for Breast Cancer is to help explain common experiences and emotions associated with the diagnosis and treatment for breast cancer.

The book has practical advice and insightful understanding to help navigate the psychological and emotional experiences associated with breast cancer. The book is designed to be a quick read rather than a text book as the typical cancer suffer has many issues to deal with in their lives. While written directly for the woman who has breast cancer, it is a useful aid for the friends and family to understand some of the issues involved. Professionals may also benefit from the insights and explanations.

“Some of the experiences and practical advice Dr Phil shares will no doubt be helpful to many patients and their families going through this difficult time. This is also a useful read for the caregivers to better understand what the patients are going through in order to provide meaningful support and care. The book is very easy to read and the messages come across in simple language without jargon”.
