Telehealth is also available for our face-to-face clients who are not well enough to attend our practice but can still participate in a consultation.

Book a Telehealth Psychology Appointment

Mindstate Psychology offers Telehealth Psychology consults with our team of highly experienced psychologists. Telehealth counselling sessions with a psychologist are convenient, flexible, fully secure and private. They are similar to a face-to-face appointment with a psychologist, except you don't have to worry about driving or parking!

How do Telehealth Psychology sessions work?

Telehealth counselling sessions with a psychologist are convenient, flexible, fully secure and private. They are similar to a face-to-face appointment with a psychologist. The only difference is that you communicate via video call on your phone or laptop instead of being in the same room.

To begin, you need to book a telehealth appointment. Clients with an existing appointment can contact our reception team and request the appointment be changed to telehealth. For new clients, you can discover how to get started at Mindstate Psychology here - please remember to include telehealth in your request.

For all Telehealth Psychology sessions, you will be sent a personalised, secure link just before your scheduled appointment time. This link will allow you to access a virtual therapy room. You can use any device with a camera and microphone. Just like face-to-face sessions, Medicare rebates are available with a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP. Private Health insurance claims are also available for telehealth sessions. More information about fees and rebates can be found on our fees page.

Is Telehealth as effective as in-person counselling?

We understand that video counselling sessions may feel strange and daunting to some people, but the great news is that Telehealth has been proven to be just as effective as in-person appointments. Your psychologist can use the same style of therapy and teach the same techniques as they normally would in a face-to-face session – the only difference is that you don’t have to worry about a commute to our practice, or working your session around your busy schedule.

Mindstate Psychology is here to support you, no matter where you are located. Your mental health is our top priority, and we're excited to partner with you on your path to a brighter future.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some frequently asked questions about Telehealth Psychology

Is Telehealth psychology still available in Australia?

Yes, it is! While telehealth was initially introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic, Medicare continues to provide rebates for mental health consultations today. Please remember you need to have a valid referral to receive Medicare rebates.

Can I receive Medicare Rebates for Telehealth Psychology Consults?

Yes, absolutely! Telehealth appointments are eligible for Medicare rebates like regular face-to-face appointments. Remember that in order to receive Medicare rebates, you must have a valid GP Mental Healthcare Plan. More information about Fees & Medicare rebates is available on our fees page.

Do I need a referral from a GP to see a psychologist via Telehealth?

You do not need a referral to see a telehealth psychologist. However, to receive Medicare rebates, you must have a referral from a psychiatrist or paediatrician or a Mental Healthcare Plan from a GP. Please note that referrals cannot be backdated, so if you intend to claim Medicare rebates, you need to visit your GP before your first telehealth appointment.

Do I need to download any special software for Telehealth Psychology?

Our Telehealth software is based on the WebRTC technology that is built into all modern web browsers. You do not need to download any special software; you only need to open the Telehealth link in a web browser. Please note that you will require a device with a microphone and camera.

Is telehealth therapy secure and private?

Our Telehealth system features end-to-end encryption and is fully secure and private. It is based on WebRTC technology, which allows web browsers to send and receive live data directly to each other. Because the telehealth data is being encrypted and exchanged directly between participant's browsers, no one, including the system provider, can access the call data. Once the call has been established, the call data never passes through any servers or hosting infrastructure.
