As a Psychologist, Liam is interested in studying individuals and groups to better understand how people, communities and society’s function, and devise ways to empower them and help them thrive. Liam does this through applying principles of cognitive and behavioural analysis to the understanding of mental and biological functions that drive behavioural patterns of concern.

Expected outcomes
Seeing a psychologist for the first time can be a daunting experience for some people. It’s completely normal to feel a little nervous and apprehensive. Knowing what to expect before you arrive can help ease your nerves.
An initial consult with Liam will include taking a personal history to better understand what has brought you to therapy and what has shaped you. Liam may also ask you to gather some observational data by asking you to keep a behavioural record of a particular issue of concern to gain deeper awareness and insight into triggers/cue, actions, and payoffs of behavioural patterns. Equipped with all the above information, Liam will provide you with feedback on the presenting issue(s) and possible causes and maintaining factors so that the intervention applied has maximum benefit.
Based on this assessment Liam will provide a rationale for the type of evidence-based treatment best suited to your unique situation. Depending on what the presenting problem(s) are, evidence-based treatments may include cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, schema therapy, EMDR, and mindfulness-based therapeutic approaches.

Why you love what you do
The most rewarding part is helping people look at all the different variables that are affecting their behaviours (thoughts, emotions, and actions) and helping them to respond in more adaptive and flexible ways. I really enjoy routine outcomes monitoring and demonstrating to people how they progress and change to move from current state to a desired state in whatever shape or form towards their values and goals. This is at heart of progress – “to see the forest through the trees” so to speak and to take steps in pursuit of what is most important to us.
Liam does not have any publications at this time.
